LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Tickets went on sale Monday for one of the biggest cancer awareness events in Angelina County. Power of Pink has been an annual gathering for hundreds of East Texans for the past 21 years. The luncheon first started as a sack lunch and a way to promote breast cancer awareness at Memorial. For the past few years, roughly 800 women gather at the convention center.
"We try to make it bigger and better every year. This year we're bringing back a speaker that we had once before," said Memorial Medical Center community relations specialist Lindsey Mott. "Sally Baskey is a great motivational speaker."
Spreading awareness is what it's all about.
"The whole purpose is to remind everybody to get their mammograms, remember to do your self-checks, to spread the word, and make sure the people you love, the ladies that you love and care for are doing that as well because that is the best way to prevent breast cancer," Mott said.
Memorial is hopeful for a bigger participation in this year's art bra contest.
Lufkin Jewelry on the Square will be customizing a cross for this year's raffle prize.
Power of Pink will be Thursday October 17, 2013, at the Lufkin Pitser Garrison Convention Center from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m.
Tickets are currently on sale for $25 per ticket or $500 to reserve a table and can be purchased at the Arthur Temple Sr. Regional Cancer Center, Alene's Florist, The Main Event, Studio 319.
You can also call Lindsey Mott to reserve a table at 936-639-7613.
