CROCKETT, TX (KTRE) -

On September 6, Crockett Police officers arrested a mother of three children for child abandonment in connection to an incident in which her three children, ranging in age from 3 to 7 years, were left unattended in a car at the town's Walmart back in February while she was allegedly inside the store shoplifting.

At the time, Maria Espinosa, of Crockett, was arrested and charged with theft. However, the child endangerment issue was later presented to a Houston County grand jury, and Espinosa was indicted on three felony charges of child abandonment or endangerment.

Espinosa is still being held in the Houston County Jail. Her bail was set at $5,000.

According to a press release that was issued Monday, Crockett Police officers were dispatched to the Walmart store located in the 1200 block of East Loop 304 after an off-duty officer noticed that a car parked next to his vehicle was occupied with three young children who had no adult supervision.

CPD officers located Espinosa at her residence in the 100 block of Crockett on Sept. 6. She was arrested at the scene and transported to the Houston County Jail.
