USDA opens probe into Cypress Creek Organic Farms

HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

The U.S. Department of Agriculture is confirming an open investigation into the Owens Cross Roads business, Cypress Creek Organic Farms.

WAFF 48 began investigating the company after the Better Business Bureau issued an alert.

Officials at the USDA would only release that the investigation was opened after receiving a complaint but would not detail what the complaint was.

Up until last week, the company's website claimed farmers would earn $25,000 to $40,000 growing organic tomatoes. The company has since pulled that ad since it violated Federal Trade Commission rules.

The company also pulled the USDA's seal from its website since Cypress Creek still isn't organic certified.

The company is seeking organic certification through Americert, a certifying agent under the UDSA. The investigation has not prompted the certifying agent to delay Cypress Creek Organic Farms' certification process.
