Weches man dies in Grapeland two-vehicle accident

GRAPELAND, TX (KTRE) -

A Weches man is dead after a two-vehicle accident Thursday night in Grapeland.

According to Grapeland Police Chief Chuck Franklin, Robert Holcomb, 88, of Weches, was Westbound in a 2011 tan Tacoma pickup truck on FM 227 when he ran a stop sign. Holcomb was hit in the driver side door by a Key Oil Company truck that was traveling northbound on U.S. Highway 287.

After the collision both trucks left the road into the field adjacent to the Kracker Barrel convenient store.

Holcomb was pronounced dead at the scene.

Grapeland Police, EMS and Volunteer Fire Department arrived on scene at FM 227 and U.S. 287 at approximately 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 10. The scene was cleared shortly after midnight.

The Department of Public Safety is assisting Grapeland PD in the investigation of this accident.
