NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - The Stephen F. Austin State University Lumberjacks have two goals in mind for Saturday's first home football game. Win and support Nacogdoches United Way.
First there's a tailgate event. Then will be a "texting campaign" throughout the game and a very special "United" half time. Players encourage fan participation.
"Some of us want to end up doing things like this, raising money and helping others, said D.J. Ward, a wide receiver for the Lumberjacks. "As much as the United Way does, it's really important to all of us that we can just affect other people with our playing."
"It will be almost like a double win for us. We win in the community and we win on the field," said Jordan Aubrey, a safety for the Lumberjacks. "And I think a lot of guys enjoy that knowing that we went out there and won the game and then we helped United Way during the process."
Positive thinking there for sure. The SFA Lumberjacks kick off at 6 p.m. Saturday.
