NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - A Nacogdoches woman is in the middle of a road of grief, a month after losing her mother in a June house fire. But Saturday, her neighbors hope they can do their part to bring her a step closer to normalcy.
Sharon Teal is on the road of grief.
"And I don't know how long it's going to take," she said.
Friends and good neighbors are attempting to relieve the sadness.
"I woke up one morning with this idea to have a huge, neighborhood-combined garage sale," Laura Null said. "And I just really think it's just something God placed on my heart to do."
Saturday's benefit garage sale at the corner of Old Lufkin Road and Willow Oak overwhelms Teal.
Recovery is slowly but surely happening. After the house fire, Teal was homeless. Love in the Name of Christ's new fire house provided temporary shelter.
Following a news story on Teal's plight, an apartment opening surfaced, giving Teal a permanent home.
The death of Teal's mother brought another outpour of concern.
"She has people that care for her and that are just looking out for her," Null said. "It's just that everyone I talk to in the neighborhood is like, 'Yeah. This is what neighbors need to do."
"I think it's wonderful," Teal said. "I really appreciate them for doing this."
The tears wouldn't stop. Rarely is an upcoming garage sale so emotional.
"Garage sales are a lot of work and I know that and we have a lot to do, but it's going to be very rewarding just to see all the people coming out and just supporting her," Null said.
The garage sale begins at 7 a.m.
