NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - Following her grand jury indictments, a 34-year-old Nacogdoches woman was arrested Monday on four counts of engaging in organized criminal activity and two counts of exploitation of a child after she allegedly staged a car accident and filed bogus insurance claims.
The child exploitation charge stems from the fact that she claimed two children under the age of 14 were in the vehicle when the accident occurred.
Veronica Lafferal Jernigan is still being held in the Nacogdoches County Jail on four counts of engaging in organized criminal activity and two counts of child exploitation, all third-degree felonies. Her bail has been set at $20,000.
According to the text of the Nacogdoches County grand jury indictment passed down in July, all of the offenses date back to October 2011. The indictment stated that she conspired with Chavorsky Lee Charles Brooks to stage an auto accident, and file four fraudulent claims with Allstate Insurance for a total amount that was between $1,500 and $20,000.
