SFA kicks off 90th year with coin toss

NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - SFA has begun a year of celebrating its 90th birthday.

On Tuesday, the first-ever coin toss happened at the SFA fountain.

SFA supporters are asked to donate coins to academics, athletics and scholarships.

It's going on now until 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.

"This is an opportunity to pay forward," said April Smith, the associate director of development. "And same way with our faculty and staff and our alumni, and especially our young alumni. Somebody helped them out and this is an opportunity for them to participate, be involved and again honor SFA's 90th anniversary."

And there are other celebrations this week. The Austin building will be draped with a 90th anniversary banner and illuminated with purple lights.

And on Wednesday morning, birthday cake and purple ice cream will be handed out at 11:30 a.m. at the Baker Patillo Student Center plaza.
