LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - The fifth year of Memorial Hospital's art bra contest is underway. Anyone interested in joining the contest is urged to put in their entry form by October 4. The art bra contest is part of Memorial Hospital's Power of Pink luncheon, which has been around for the last 21 years.
Lindsey Mott, a Community Relations Specialist for Memorial Hospital, says the contest is a fun way for contestants to decorate bras in a glamorous and silly way, as well as bring awareness about breast cancer.
"It's a fun way to promote breast cancer awareness. I know sometimes the luncheons are a good thing and it's a great bonding experience and sometimes we get real serious about it. I think it's a good to have a lightheartedness sometimes about those serious issues so that we remember that we can beat this," Mott said.
Entry forms for the art bra contest can be picked up at the Arthur Temple Sr. Regional Cancer Center and Abeldt's Gaslight Pharmacy or online at www.memorialhealth.org.
The entry fee for the contest is $10 and there will be 1st, 2nd, 3rd and People's Choice winners. All bras will be on display at this year's Power of Pink Luncheon on October 17th from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Pitser Garrison Convention Center. The winning bras will be modeled.
Tickets are still available for the luncheon and can be purchased at Alene's Florist, the Main Event, Studio 319 and the Arthur Temple Sr. Cancer Center.
Tickets are $24 each or $500 for a reserved table.
