CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) -

Traveling at 50 miles per hour in from the west side of Cleveland along the Shoreway will next year be a thing of the past as the city of Cleveland and ODOT slows us all down to 35 miles per hours.

It's part of the Cleveland Lakefront West project.

"All the asphalt will be ripped up. You will have a brand new roadway put in. Tree line Boulevard. You will have a multiple purpose lane where people can get on their bikes here at West Boulevard and be able to cycle all the way to West Cleveland," said Cleveland City Councilman Matt Zone.

The final money to fund the completion of the Cleveland Lakefront West project is arriving this week as initial meetings about the Shoreway project started back in 2001.

The state of Ohio is now tossing in more millions in construction dollars at a Tuesday press conference at Edgewater Park to take the vision discussed in those 2001 meetings and turn it into reality.

"This is wonderful news for Cleveland. It's an investment in infrastructure that eventually translates into jobs," said Ohio Governor John Kasich.

The 2.5 mile multi-lane Shoreway will cut down the speed limit from 55 mph to 35 mph.

Remember when Captain America shut down the Shoreway for filming? Some didn't like the detours and initially it slowed down traffic to a stand still in Cleveland.

Now the city is slowing it done for good.

"This is part of our plan to make the center of Cleveland the Lake of Cleveland. No more East side West side. Really everything emanating from the Lake," Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson says.

Construction on the project will begin in 2014.
