Crockett man accused of misfiring stolen gun in stolen car

CROCKETT, TX (KTRE) - Crockett police arrested a man early Thursday who is accused of breaking into a vehicle and stealing it with a gun inside of it.

Roy C. Runnels, 45, of Crockett, is charged with evading arrest and felon in possession of a firearm, with other charges pending.

Det. Clayton Smith said Runnels broke into the vehicle around 12:30 a.m. and stole it. While he was driving, he apparently misfired a gun inside, causing minor damage to the vehicle.

When officers caught up to Runnels, Smith said Runnels got out of the vehicle, taking the gun with him.

Officers were able to catch him on foot and arrest him.

The vehicle was returned to the owner. Police are keeping the gun for evidence.
