Barley hopes a family will overlook his heartworms and bring him home

NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - Meet Barley. He's a 3-year-old Daschund mix who loves to wag his tail and lay in your lap.

Barley is sweet as can be and hopes his winning personality will attract a loving family.

"He's very laid back. He's very quiet," said Jaime Shelton, Director at Nacogdoches Animal Shelter. "He doesn't meet a stranger, although he's a little bit timid. He loves everybody. He has been passed over several times because he does have heartworms and it's a shame because he is such a nice dog. He's a really good dog."

Barley is heartworm positive but that doesn't mean he's not a good healthy dog. He will require a little bit of extra care and some heartworm medication but half of that is already sponsored by the Nacogdoches Animal Shelter.

"He will require a little bit of extra attention and the animal shelter is willing to sponsor half of his heart worm treatment so that will be an incentive and that's quite a chunk of change," said Shelton.

The shelter is also sponsoring his sterilization surgery.

Barley loves to cuddle, look out the window and explore.
