2 seriously injured in wreck involving Model T on 69 North, near Wells

ANGELINA COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - A two-vehicle wreck shut down all southbound traffic south of Wells on US 69 Thursday evening. One of the vehicles is a Model T.

Two people, a man and woman, were injured. Theodore Dumas, 75, of Dallas, was airlifted by helicopter to East Texas Medical Center Tyler for treatment of his injuries. Another person, Dorinda Dumas, 50, of Dallas, was taken by ambulance to Woodland Heights Medical Center.

Dorinda Dumas is Theodore Dumas' daughter. His wife, Janice Dumas, was not injured in the accident.

Dorinda Dumas is listed in Stable condition.

As of 7:45 p.m. Theodore Dumas was still in the emergency room at ETMC in Tyler.

Heidi Wood, who drove up on the scene after the wreck occurred, said a Chevy Silverado pickup driven by 51-year-old Roel Villareal of Beaumont rear-ended the 1924 Model T and ejected Theodore Dumas from the antique car. DPS Trooper Chris Stanberry said that it is uncertain if any citations will be handed out because the investigation is not complete.

"I was leaving Wells and going to Lufkin," Wood said. "I had to turn around and go back home. They were just leaving the store. As we were coming I saw the car in the ditch and I thought, 'Oh my God they ran off the road.' I thought they lost luggage but it was not luggage, it was the poor man laying in the road."

Wood and her mother tried to control the man's bleeding until emergency personnel arrived on the scene. She said the man was alert and coherent when he was talking to them.

"I kept rubbing his back and holding the pressure," Wood said. "He just kept asking the same question, 'what happened, what happened?'"

Dave Lucas, Chairman of the Texas T Party hopes that drivers will use this incident as a warning when sharing the road with these classic cars.

Lufkin is hosting the 36th annual Texas T-Party Convention.
