PHOENIX (CBS5) -

Alexis Urbina left quite the impression on Arizona Boxing News & Notes columnist Don Smith.

"He seemed to be a happy young man. I always saw him smiling. He was a very good fighter and very well-schooled. He was a hero to some. He was an aspiring Olympian," Smith said.

Smith wrote extensively on the 17-year-old's murder, a case that's baffled police and left Urbina's loved ones reeling since his body was found in his home on the morning of Sept. 3.

"Going through a situation like this is extremely hard. We even argue sometimes because we don't know what's going on," said Alexis' brother, Saul Urbina.

With the help of donations, Smith is hoping to put the spotlight back on the case and drum up new leads.

On Oct. 22 a billboard will go up near Fourth Street and Broadway.

"They're going to put his picture up. They're going to put the reward up. A $5,000 reward. Right in the neighborhood where the young man was basically assassinated," Smith said.

Saul Urbina told CBS 5 his family is grateful for the community's support. He has a message for anyone who might know who killed his kid brother.

"Put yourself in our shoes. Put yourself in our position and help us out. Think from the heart. Please we need your help," said Urbina.

Silent Witness is also offering an additional $1,000 reward.
