Former E. Texas constable sentenced to 75 years for murdering ex-girlfriend

A former East Texas constable accused of murdering his ex-girlfriend and assaulting her male companion pleaded guilty Thursday and has been sentenced to 75 years in prison.

According to inForney, former Hunt County Constable Anthony Dewayne Lewis, 48, plead guilty Thursday was sentenced Thursday to 60 years in prison for the February 2013 shooting death of his ex-girlfriend, 33-year-old Jessica Aguilar. Lewis was also sentenced to 15 years in prison for the aggravated assault of 40-year-old Francisco Delacruz. He will serve both sentences concurrently.

Just before 8 p.m. on February 16, Lewis shot Aguilar and Delacruz multiple times in the parking lot of Cinemark 12 in Rockwall. He then fled the scene in a black Mini Cooper. Witnesses at the scene were able to describe his vehicle and Lewis was spotted by police in Garland at 8:22 p.m.

Lewis led police and a Texas Department of Public Safety helicopter on a chase through multiple counties. The chase was ended when his Mini Cooper drove over spike strips placed by authorities and eventually came to a stop.

"The suspect then exited his vehicle, pointed a handgun at the officers and was shot by officers on the scene," said a statement from the Rockwall Police Department.

According to his listing on Hunt County Voter's Guide, Lewis served two terms as Hunt County Constable Pct. 2 beginning in 1996. He ran for the office again 2012 and lost. He was a law enforcement officer for 25 years. Most of his years were spent as a motorcycle officer for the Coppell Police Department. Lewis was also a police sergeant at Argyle Police Department and a tactical swat paramedic for Dallas County's High Warrant Apprehension and Special Response Team.
