Cold temperatures expected across the South Plains

Posted: Updated:
LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

Have you gotten your jackets out of the closet? You'll need them Saturday morning, especially if you're outside.

A strong cold front is now moving south through the Panhandle and will impact the South Plains northern communities around 8:30 p.m. or so and Lubbock about 9:30 p.m.

That's when the winds will turn abruptly to the north and gust to near 40-45 mph with some blowing dust possible.

Temps will start dropping and will eventually dip to around 40 degrees in Lubbock Saturday morning. Add some wind of 30-40 mph and it will feel like it's in the 30s.

Saturday's high in Lubbock, 66.

The communities of Muleshoe east to Littlefield and Plainview will dip to the 30s Saturday morning and those areas will likely experience a freeze on Sunday morning.
