NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) -

Traffic on U.S. Highway 59 North came to a complete standstill after a tractor-trailer rig carrying a wide load with a huge piece of machinery tried to cross over to the northbound lanes from the southbound lanes Friday afternoon.

"A driver with a wide load tried to turn around at a crossover and couldn't quite make it all the way around," said Kathi White, a spokesman for the Texas Department of Transportation.

The incident occurred around 1:30 p.m. Friday. The tractor-trailer rig got hung up just outside of the Nacogdoches loop due to the length of his load.

An East Texas News viewer sent in pictures of TxDOT and emergency personnel trying to get the tractor-trailer rig unstuck from the median between the north and southbound lanes of traffic using a massive wrecker from a nearby towing company.

The pictures show that both northbound lanes of traffic and one lane of southbound traffic were blocked. White said traffic was only blocked for about 30 minutes.
