HARRISON COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -

The body of a woman was discovered near Interstate 20 on Monday afternoon around 1 p.m., says Jay Webb, an investigator with the Harrison County Sheriff's Office.

Webb said two truck drivers traveling eastbound on Interstate 20 pulled over near Farm to Market 450 to inspect their tires. After pulling over, the drivers spotted something just off to the side of the roadway. Upon closer inspection, they realized it was the body of a white female lying on her back with short blonde hair wearing only a light-blue pullover.

"As he was walking around the side of his vehicle he found what he thought was a mannequin off on the side of the road. Upon examination, he looked a little closer and found it to be a white female approximately 30, 35 to 40 years old," Webb said.

Officials believe the body had only been there for a few hours. The female, who had no identification on her and no tattoos or other identifying marks, appeared to be in her mid to late-thirties. There was no sign of any decomposition on the body, which was sent off for an autopsy.

"There's really nothing around the body, no purse, no jewelry, there's nothing to indicate who she is," Webb revealed.

Harrison County Sheriff's Department and The Texas Department of Public Safety responded to the scene which is just two miles south of Hallsville.  The ramp merging on to I-20 East from FM 450 was closed while officials were investigating.

"We are checking with Gregg County, Longview and obviously Shreveport due to our close proximity to each other on the highway. We want to check their missing person's files as well," Webb stated.

Web said there was a missing person case in Longview, but the description didn't match.

"She could have been dumped, killed somewhere else. As it is right now we are working this as a homicide," Webb said.

Authorities are urging anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the area to call Harrison County authorities immediately at 903-923-4000.
