Angelina County Sheriff's Office ID's woman found dead on Royce Oliver road Sunday

ANGELINA COUNTY, TX (KTRE) -

The Angelina County Sheriff's Office is continuing their investigation into a body found on the side of Royce Oliver road in Angelina County near FM 2021, north of Lufkin.

Sheriff Greg Sanches says the woman has been identified as Vanessa Machelle Hamdan.

Hamdan's body was taken to Beaumont where an autopsy revealed her cause of death to be blunt force trauma but the manner of death remains undetermined.

Sanches says they are still treating it as a homicide but they are still working to determine if it was a hit and run or a murder.

Investigators on the scene said there was significant damage to the woman's face.

Investigators were able to identify Hamdan through fingerprints and Texas Drivers license records.

Sanches says Hamdan has some relatives that live in the area and some family did come to the sheriff's office concerned about her.

The body was found Sunday afternoon in the ditch on Royce Oliver road. The original call that dispatched authorities were for a suspected auto-pedestrian accident but when officials arrived they found the female on the side of the road and immediately sealed the scene.

The sheriff's office is investigating this case as a homicide.

The Texas Department of Public Safety, Angelina County Sheriff's Office and Precinct 2 Constable were all on scene.

The Angelina County Sheriff Department is requesting the assistance of the public with any information related her activities on Saturday, October 5, 2013 and Sunday, October 6, 2013.

If you have any information about this case,  please contact the Angelina County Sheriff's Office at: 936-634-3331 or call Crime Stoppers: 936-639-TIPS

More than a few tar-covered tires are hanging on to the parking lot of a Lufkin tire shop.  On August 31, newly laid asphalt on Loop 287 started sticking to tires of those driving, leaving many of the cars un-driveable. As of Friday, the Texas Department of Transportation hadn't come out with an official cause for the incident, but that hasn't stopped over 600 people from filing claims with them.
