Solid Foundation of Nacogdoches outreaching to community for new funds

NACOGDOCHES, TX (News Release) - The Solid Foundation Association in Nacogdoches has dedicated the past 8 years to the community and now they need your help. The organization is a non-profit, faith based group that focuses on helping at risk youth with academics, character development, and job readiness.

On Monday, the organization had a meeting at the Fredonia Hill Baptist Church to prepare volunteers for their upcoming banquet on October 18 that will also act as an outreach for more community funds. Executive Director John Cannings says they rely heavily on funds from United Way, Nacogdoches Bible Fellowship and local businesses, but need more to help sustain the operations needed for their five locations in Nacogdoches including a Spanish language center.

"The program is important because it helps kids stay out of trouble. It reduces the line of poverty where the domino effect of poverty is recurring and just all in all help kids be more successful in life," Canning said.

Keith Jackson, a former NFL player for the Green Bay packers, will be a key speaker at the banquet. Cannings says Jackson has his own foundation similar to the solid foundation called Positive Atmosphere for Kids, which is based in Arkansas.

Anyone is invited to come to the banquet, and Solid Foundation is also looking for volunteers. For more information on how to get involved contact the or call at (936) 615-3677. You can also visit their web site to contribute a donation.
