Hall of Fame basketball coach Larry Brown joined the SMU Mustang Club in Tyler on Tuesday night. The SMU men's basketball coach was at Fresh by Brookshire's for an SMU reception. Brown won the 1988 NCAA Final Four with the Kansas Jayhawks before spending the next two decades in the NBA. The 73 year says he's happy to be back in the college game.
"I enjoy coaching and teaching," said Brown. "I think college affords you more of an opportunity to teach even though the NBA is getting so much younger. College you have more time to practice between games. In the NBA you have so many games in a short period of time. All the kids want to be in the NBA. Hopefully with the experience I have there I can them."
Brown left Kansas after the 1988 season to coach the San Antonio Spurs. He won the 2004 NBA Finals coaching the Detroit Pistons. He's the only coach to ever win an NBA championship and NCAA Final Four.
