MESA, AZ (CBS5/AP) -

Fire officials say more fuel has been found in the debris fire feet away from Loop 202 in Mesa near McKellips that ignited Wednesday afternoon.

"We are moving into an aggressive firefighting mode. We dug in a little bit to the material burning and found lots more fuel so this thing could burn for two or more weeks if we let it," Rural Metro spokesman Colin Williams said.

Williams said crews are bringing in heavy machinery to remove the fuel and pour water on the fire.

The fire was raging in just minutes, pushed by high winds.

Arizona Department of Transportation cameras showed the sky was full of flames and smoke.

More than 45 firefighters from three different agencies were called out to battle the first alarm blaze.

Mesa Fire Department spokesman Forrest Smith said the fire burned over an area the size of several football fields.

"This is a classic recipe for disaster," Smith said. "High winds, a lot of materials to burn and a lot of heat."

The fire burned old tires, tree stumps and wood chips, some piled up to 100 feet high.

Smith said he expected the fire to burn for a couple of days.
