CAMP COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -
When Jim Wilkins was transferred from the West Coast to the East Coast, his papers designating him as a submariner were lost and he was sent to Vietnam, only a few miles from the North Vietnam border.
His base was constantly under fire both during and after the Tet Offensive. Even today, Wilkins doesn't know how he escaped death, when others were dying all around him.
Although Wilkins has written songs, novels, stories and poems on other subjects, Vietnam keeps surfacing in his writings. Wilkins CD "Patriotism" has been played on local radio stations
