BURGAW, NC (WECT) - A man in Pender County believes an app on his stolen cell phone has helped him identify who took it from him.

It appears the alleged thieves are taking pictures of themselves with the stolen phone, and those pictures may ultimately lead to their arrest.

Eddie Rich says his phone was stolen last Tuesday while he was at the McDonald's in Burgaw. According to Rich, when he received his new phone a few days later, he opened the Drop Box app and pictures of a random man and women popped up.

Rich says that his old phone was set up to automatically upload pictures in Drop Box, which means that every time the apparent crooks take a picture of themselves on the stolen phone, Rich and now police can see it.

"I kind of laughed, to be honest with you," said Rich. "I know I'm not going to get my money back. I know I'm not going to get phone back. I accept that. But these people should probably be on world's dumbest criminals. I guess technology is going to get ya," said Rich.

Burgaw police are investigating this case. Rich says that although the Drop Box app is helping solve the case, he wishes he'd had a passcode on his phone that was stolen.

Remi was brought into the shelter as a stray about three weeks ago. "He gets along with the other dogs. He still in his puppy stage so he still has a lot of time to go around play with everyone," said Torion Johnson, animal control officer.  Remi is a heeler-spani...
