LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) -

Longview police made a gruesome discovery Monday while responding to a 911 call.

Officers were investigating a suspicious activity call near the area at 1:42 p.m. on Monday. The suspicious activity turned out to be nothing more than railroad workers doing their job.

However, after completing this assignment, an officer was walking back to his car when something caught his attention.

"As they were going back to their car one of the officersnoticed something, they actually started investigating that and located abody," said Longview Police Officer Kristie Brian.

The officers discovered the body lying just a short distance away. It is unknown whether the body was that of a male or female.

Gregg County Precinct One Justice of The Peace B.H.Jameson was called to the scene.

"The situation was pretty bad for us; the mosquitoes andwhere it was. It was right there towards a creek, and the body was partiallyburied. They were having to uncover it and take samples and pictures toinvestigate so they didn't loose any evidence at the time," Jameson said.

Judge Jameson said he thought the victim was a female, and the body had been there a week or less.

"I believe they have made an ID but they have notnotified next of kin to verify," Judge Jameson added.

The cause of death has not been determined, and the bodyhas been sent off for an autopsy.

Anyone with information regarding this investigation is asked to contact Longview Police Detectives at 903-237-1199 or Gregg County Crime Stoppers at 903-236-7867.
