It's one of Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett's famous lines. "Be good in all three phases of the game." The Nacogdoches football team must be listening to Garret's press conferences. No actually their listening to a pretty good head coach in Bobby Reyes who preaches that to his team as well. And the Dragons are listening. And that's the biggest reason they are now 1 and 0 in district and a remarkable 5 and 1 on the season. Nacogdoches opened league play with a 31 to nothing win over Jacksonville and yes special teams, defense, and offense all played a big part in the victory. The Dragons scored on a punt return, got an interception in their own endzone, and executed well on offense. Nacogdoches has repeatedly made the big plays in all three facets of the game this season and it goes back to preparation.
Quarterback Bryce Matthews says, "Just practicing throughout the week, getting better at what we are doing, focusing, watching film and getting better. " Jim Oglesbee added, "Working hard in practice, and this year we have worked a lot more on special teams that we did last year and that's made a big difference." Coach Reyes ended by saying, "The biggest thing is we just play hard. I mean we play hard the whole ballgame, whether its the first string or second string, everybody plays hard and it makes a big difference."
