Hundreds of dads join mentoring program in Hudson

HUDSON, TX (KTRE) - Thursday, hundreds of East Texas fathers signed up for a mentoring program that is new to Bonner Elementary in Hudson.

A Bonner fourth grader wanted to bring the WATCH D.O.G.S (Dads of great students) mentoring program to his school and with permission from principal Suzanne Jones a kick off meeting for the program was held Thursday night.

The dads of great students program is a way for East Texas fathers to get involved with their students and increase positive outcomes.

"WATCH D.O.G.S is really designed to do two main objectives. It's to provide an extra set of eyes and ears on campuses and to provide positive male role modeling to our children," Jacob Donellan said.

Students will gain a positive role male role model once they join the program. Some students do not have a father figure at home, so many of them will get a sense of security and have the chance to spend meaningful time with these fathers.

Fathers can sign up throughout the school year to join the program and choose days to visit the children at school.
