SAN AUGUSTINE, TX (KTRE) - A San Augustine County grand jury indicted a 24-year-old man on three counts of sexual assault of a child and two counts of indecency with a child in connection to allegations that he molested and exposed himself to a 14-year-old girl.
"Our investigation found sufficient evidence to sustain the charges, and the grand jury thought it was enough to true-bill him," said Chief Deputy Gary Cunningham of the San Augustine County Sheriff's Office.
Jonathan Dees, of San Augustine, is still being held in the San Augustine County Jail on three second-degree felony charges of sexual assault of a child and two third-degree felony charges of indecency with a child. Collectively, his bail has been set at $500,000.
When Cunningham spoke of the recent grand jury indictment Friday morning, he said Dees sexually assaulted the 14-year-old girl and exposed himself to her multiple times over the course of a period of several months in early 2013.
Although Cunningham would not elaborate on the details of what happened, he said the sexual assaults were forced.
"He clearly attacked her," Cunningham said.
Cunningham said Dees' residence in San Augustine is in the same general vicinity as the girl's. The girl was being treated at an emergency room on Sept. 8 when it was revealed that she had been sexually assaulted by an adult.
Cunningham said the investigating deputy has worked a lot of consecutive hours on the case and gathered enough information to get warrants for his arrest.
