Livingston PD: Man hits mother with phone book, office chair during argument

LIVINGSTON, TX (KTRE) - Livingston Police officers arrested a 54-year-oldman Saturday after he allegedly threw a phone book at his 78-year-old motherand hit her in the chest with an office chair after she confronted him aboutproperty he had taken.

Robert Dwain Brown, of Livingston, is still beingheld in the Polk County Jail on a third-degree felony charge of injury to theelderly and a Class A misdemeanor theft between $500 and $1,500 charge. Bailhas been set at $35,000 for the injury to elderly charge. No bail has been setfor the theft charge at this time.

According to Lt. Matt Parrish, a spokesman for theLivingston Police Department, the incident occurred on Oct. 17. Brown wasstaying at his mother's residence on Holly Street when she confronted him aboutsome of her property - a TV and some jewelry - that had turned up missing.

Parrish said after Brown told his mother he hadtaken the property, they got into an argument. During the argument, Brown threwa phone book at his mother, striking her in the face.

As the argument continued to escalate, Brownallegedly picked up an office chair and struck his mother in the chest with it.The woman left the residence and called 911.

Brown's mother received minor injuries as a resultof his alleged assault.
