Strange odor prompts Nashville apartment evacuation

Posted: Updated:
NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Residents of a south Nashville apartment complex were evacuated as crews investigated a strange smell.

A Hazmat team was called just before 3 p.m. to the 600 block of Whispering Oaks Place, which is near Harding Place and Nolensville Pike.

According to Nashville Fire Department officials, the apartment manager and residents of building 13 at Whispering Oaks Apartments noticed strong smell of ammonia.

Since ammonia is often associated with the manufacture of meth, police were called to investigate.

When investigators checked inside, they found nothing illegal, and the smell dissipated.

There no reports of people feeling sick, and residents were allowed to return inside about 5 p.m.
