U.S. 59 construction merges all traffic into one lane; officials urge caution

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Construction on U.S. 59 is still running smoothly, but Texas Department of Transportation officials are warning of a potentially hazardous and dangerous area to look out for this week because of the construction.

Southbound traffic has been moved to one lane heading northbound toward Nacogdoches.

"Once you get onto the railroad bridge pass that bridge you will see that it's down to one lane and people really need to use caution coming through that area at this time," said Kathi White, the spokesperson for TXDOT.

White says she expects the one lane traffic to last until the holidays and southbound traffic will be diverted onto a portion of the new roadway in between the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays.
