Forum held on domestic violence

Jordan Jones Jordan Jones
TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

The Toledo Police Department is looking for ways to stop domestic violence. A forum was held Friday for people to talk about the issue.

In 2012 there were more than 56,000 cases of domestic violence reported to the Ohio Attorney General. More than 1,000 of those came from Lucas County.

Organizers of Friday's forum say that domestic violence is not only an issue that rips apart families, but it plagues communities The forum was held at the Friendly Center because organizers say they have seen many cases of domestic violence in the neighborhoods surrounding the center.

People affected by the violence say no matter where the crime is occurring, it needs to stop.

"I will keep on speaking, everywhere I can speak, against domestic violence," said Blanca Romero.

Romero says the voice of someone she loved dearly was recently silenced at the hands of an angry ex-boyfriend. Police say Jordan Jones was shot and killed by Marquis Walker in her west Toledo apartment last week. Romero and Jones' family is still grieving and police are still searching for Walker.

Romero compares her crying out for help finding Walker to a squeaky wheel.

"This wheel is squeaking, you can hear me coming down the road, ‘squeak, squeak, squeak,'" she said. "And I'm not going away until we receive justice for Jordan and justice for every young lady out here suffering."

If anyone has information that could lead to finding Walker, they are asked to call Crimestopper at 419-255-1111.
