LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

A Texas Department of Public Safety trooper arrested a 56-year-old Lufkin man for allegedly driving drunk with three children under the age of 15 in the car Sunday afternoon.

Pantaleon Ramirez Villanueva is still being held in the Angelina County Jail on a state-jail felony charge of DWI with a child under the age of 15 in the car. No bail has been set at this time.

According to Trooper David Hendry, a DPS spokesman, Villanueva's 1993 GMC van was stopped at the intersection of Business 59 and Chestnut Drive for a traffic violation at approximately 2:30 p.m. Sunday. A 13-year-old girl, an 8-year-old girl, and a 3-year-old boy were in the vehicle with Villanueva when he was pulled over, Hendry said.

The report stated that Villanueva had the odor of alcohol on his breath, and had red, glassy eyes. After Villanueva performed poor on the field sobriety test, he was arrested for DWI with a child under the age of 15 in the car, Hendry said.

After Villanueva was transported to the Angelina County Jail he consented to a breath test, and the result was more than 0.08, which is the legal limit.

The three children were released into the custody of an adult passenger.

More than a few tar-covered tires are hanging on to the parking lot of a Lufkin tire shop.  On August 31, newly laid asphalt on Loop 287 started sticking to tires of those driving, leaving many of the cars un-driveable. As of Friday, the Texas Department of Transportation hadn't come out with an official cause for the incident, but that hasn't stopped over 600 people from filing claims with them.
