Corrigan's Youth Overcomers host event for community

Posted: Updated:
CORRIGAN, TX (KTRE) -

Schools all over East Texas celebrated Red Ribbon week last week, but there are still schools celebrating the drug free week this week. One of those is Corrigan- Camden Independent School District and the Youth Overcomers group. The two held a meeting for students and parents tonight at Corrigan Elementary School.

The event featured a skit about why it is important to live drug free and a special demonstration by the Corrigan Police Department and their drug dog, Lei.

"We want to educate the parents to take more notice of the children," YO President Joe Walker said. "Their attitude and things they are doing at home. We just want to catch their attention when it comes down to drugs and alcohol."

The group is a collaboration between the schools and faith based counselors.

For more information on how you can get involved in YO, call Walker at (936) 634-7605 or the Corrigan Housing Authority at (936) 398-5351.
