PHOENIX (CBS5) -

The company in charge of updating the state's entire financial system is the same firm that is responsible for some of the problems with healthcare.gov.

The State of Arizona is paying CGI $48 million to upgrade the system that processes all of the state's bills and payroll.

Lawmakers said the current system has been in place for two decades, and the computer code that runs it dates back to 1959.

It's so outdated, state Rep. Jon Kavanah says officials have had to contact nursing homes and retirement communities looking for people who know how to deal with it.

So far, the upgrade is going smoothly.

It should be ready to go by July 2015.
