Shelby County Outreach Ministries fundraiser to feature George Foreman

CENTER, TX (KTRE) -

Big time celebrities are lending their name to an East Texas non-profit to help raise money and awareness.

Two time former heavy weight champion of the world, George Foreman and Brad Maule known for his role as Dr. Tony Jones on General Hospital will be at the fundraiser for Shelby County Outreach Ministries.

"They're coming down for no other reason than to help the people of Shelby County that's it. They're just doing it to help,"said executive director of Shelby County Outreach Ministries, Pam White.

Shelby County Outreach Ministries offers a host of services and help for Shelby County residents.

"There are so many people who have made a hard living all these years and all of the sudden find themselves needing help and that's what we do," said White.

To help people like Ronald Preston...

"I was the unfortunate victim of a house fire and they all stuck their hands out there to help me get back on my feet," said Preston.

Preston said he got many typical house items. "Things that you can't replace right then after your house burned: clothing, furniture, different stuff like that,"said Preston. "Anything that I needed at the time they were going to give it to me."

And with the majority of funding coming from businesses and private donations, Staff and volunteers at the outreach hopes the fundraiser will help them achieve some long-term goals like opening a homeless shelter.

"I think all the vision that we've had for Shelby County Outreach Ministries and the homeless shelter has been one of our biggest dreams and I really believe it won't be long before we see that," said White.

"If we want to go and continue to reach out like the homeless shelter we're going to need the support of all the people here in Shelby county every little way they can help," said Meals-on-Wheel and Helping Hands program director, Josh Crawford.

The fundraiser is at the John D. Windham Civic Center, Tuesday, November 5th at 7:00 PM. Tickets are just 10 dollars plus one non-perishable food item.

You can buy tickets to the fundraiser at Ace hardware and the Unique Boutique in Center plus Baskin's in Nacogdoches and Lufkin.
