LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - A Nacogdoches man's pickup wound up perched on a guard rail on the Lufkin loop after he hydroplaned and lost control late Wednesday morning. No one was injured in the two-vehicle accident.
The accident occurred at approximately 11:50 a.m. Wednesday morning on the Lufkin loop between Chestnut Drive and U.S. Highway 69.
Gerardo Cruz said he was driving around the loop toward Nacogdoches when an 18-wheeler blew past him and threw up a spray of water. He started, hydroplaning and lost control, causing his pickup to spin. The back end of the truck wound up on a concrete guard rail near the median.
Randy Stallard, the Lufkin Police officer who responded to the accident said Cruz will be cited for failure to maintain speed.
While emergency personnel worked to clear the wreck, traffic was limited to one lane on that side of the loop.
