DIBOLL, TX (KTRE) - The Diboll Volunteer Fire Department was one of 55 fire departments nationwide to receive a $5,000 grant from the Georgia Pacific Bucket Brigade Grant Program on Tuesday.
Fire Chief Darrell Roberts says the grant means a lot to him because they will be able to buy two new sets of bunker gear. He says without that gear firemen would not be able to fight fires.
"It means a lot to us because we have limited funding and like I said gear costs $2,200 a person. That's one fireman so it adds up real quick and this money helps a whole lot," Roberts said.
The Georgia Pacific Bucket Brigade has provided one million dollars to volunteer fire departments nationwide since 2006. The grant program also focuses on continuing education programs and materials to help spread the word about fire safety.
