Mom wants action after Metro student needs staples in head

GOODLETTSVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

A middle school student had to get eight staples in his head after he says he was bullied in the school's bathroom.

His mom says it happened at the hands of another student who has constantly singled out her son, and she believes Metro Nashville Public Schools is sweeping the problem under the rug.

"I mean, there was nothing the school could say to me to explain that. It's just a horrible feeling," said mother Zevia Jones.

Jones said her sixth-grader son was attacked Monday by another student at Goodlettsville Middle School.

"It needs to stop," Jones said.

According to an incident report taken by the school's student resource officer, the two boys were wrestling in the restroom.

And school representatives say multiple students gave consistent stories - there was no bullying whatsoever.

Officials can't discuss student disciplinary action, but Jones said both boys faced a one day suspension.

"Oh, you have cameras that show the whole school. That's good, [but] not the restroom. So I feel like there should be someone, if you have to hire someone, to monitor the restrooms," Jones said.

Jones' son is now back at school, but he now has a chaperone to make sure nothing else happens to his already injured head.

"You know, he's going to remember that. He's going to have a scar from that. Hopefully, he won't have seizures or headaches," Jones said.

Jones says she's complained to the school multiple times and also the board of education. She said she'll continue until she feels her son is safe.

"I've been up there so much. This shouldn't have happened," Jones said. "I will go through any means whatsoever to protect mine, and if I have to be on camera to tell the world, that's what I'll do."
