British Computer E indicted on terror charges

HARTFORD, Conn. He's charged with using U-S-based Web sites to recruit al-Qaida, Taliban and Chechen fighters.

British computer specialist Babar Ahmad (BAH'-bahr AH'-mahd) -- being held in London after his August arrest -- was indicted today in Connecticut. He says he's confused by the charges

Ahmad is accused of backing terrorism, conspiring to kill Americans and laundering money.

He allegedly ran several sites investigators say were used to promote holy war and funnel money to terrorists.

One site allegedly encouraged people to train in street combat, land mine operations and sniper combat.

Investigators say financial donors were told to smuggle cash into Pakistan and pass it to the Taliban's consul general.
