SFA fires football coach Harper

NACOGDOCHES, TX - Stephen F. Austin State University director of athletics Robert Hill announced on Monday that head football coach J.C. Harper has been relieved of his duties effective immediately.

"Coach Harper and I met this morning at which time I shared with him my decision to make a change in our football leadership," Hill said. "I want to thank him for his service to SFA and wish him well in his future endeavors."

Harper recently completed his seventh season as head football coach at SFA with a career record of 37-45. He joined the SFA coaching staff as defensive coordinator in 2005. Harper took over as the head coach prior to the 2007 season.

The Athletic Department will immediately begin a national search for a replacement.
