Holiday travel headaches on busiest day to fly

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - The Wednesday before Thanksgiving might be the busiest day of the year to travel, but it also might be the most frustrating day for airline passengers this year fighting delayed flights due to weather.

Of the more than 20 flights flying into and out of Myrtle Beach International Airport, several of them experienced minor delays but flights going to and from New York saw delays lasting several hours.

"Small delay about two hours right now," said Gregory Rohd who is taking his family to the northeast for Thanksgiving.  "Little worried but it is what it is, if we make it up today then we're going if not we'll find some place to have Thanksgiving tomorrow."

Rob Pawlings had the opposite itinerary.  He flew from New York to Myrtle Beach but it was anything but easy.

"We were really fortunate," added Pawlings.

Once he saw the weather forecast, Pawlings said he did everything he could to try and find an earlier flight to beat the weather in New York.

"At work yesterday my boss was nice enough to let me sit on the computer and look everything up and change flights from 8:15 which is when the highest winds were supposed to be there to 6:15."

Of the flights that experienced minor delays at MYR today, most of them missed arrival and departure times by 10 to 15 minutes and the majority of those flights were to hubs in Atlanta and Charlotte.
