LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Lufkin Police officers arrested a 30-year-old man for harassing a public servant after he allegedly spat a mixture of saliva and freshly chewed chicken in an officer's face Sunday afternoon.

Roman Charles Taylor, of Lufkin, is still being held in the Angelina County Jail on a third-degree felony charge of harassment of a public servant. No bail has been set for the charge at this time.

According to the police report, LPD officers were dispatched to the intersection of Kurth Drive and McMullen Street in reference to a suspicious male. While they were en route, the dispatcher told them that a man wearing a gray shirt and tan pants was walking from house to house knocking on doors.

When the officers got to the area, they were told that the man was at a residence in the 1800 block of Kurth Drive. They found the man sitting on the front porch and eating a piece of chicken. The police report said one of the LPD officers recognized the man as Taylor because he had had previous dealings with the man.

The report stated that Taylor became "very aggressive" when the officers got out of the patrol vehicle. After approaching his front gate, Taylor allegedly kept speaking over the officer that was trying to talk to him.

While they were talking, three other LPD officers arrived on the scene to provide back up. As two of the officers were talking to Taylor, he allegedly spit in one man's face.

Then the other officer told Taylor he was under arrest, and he started to "open the gate and come toward officers in a very aggressive state."

"Officers knew from past dealings that Taylor can be very violent," the police report stated.

One of the officers tased Taylor, and the suspect fell to the ground. After the officers cuffed Taylor, he was brought to his feet. At that point, Taylor looked at another LPD officer and allegedly spit saliva and chewed chicken in his face as well.

The officers put Taylor in the back seat of a patrol vehicle and placed a spit hood over his head. After Taylor was medically cleared at Lufkin's Memorial Hospital, he was transported to the Angelina County jail without any further incident.
