AMES, IA (RNN) - Auburn grabbed a slight lead midway through the first half but No. 17 Iowa State fought back hard, winning 99-70 Monday night.

The Tigers (4-2) grabbed a three-point lead about 3 1/2 minutes into the game and increased it to 7 points before the Cyclones (6-0) took it back minutes later. Iowa State didn't lose the lead again and outscored Auburn 47-28 in the first half and 52-42 in the second.

The Cyclones battered the Tigers in assists, making 28 compared to Auburn's seven. Auburn had better luck on blocks, however, making seven to Iowa State's one.

Chris Denson led the Tigers with 27 points, eight rebounds and one steal.

The game was part of the 2013 Big 12/SEC Challenge.

This was Auburn's first road game of the season. They will play Illinois on neutral ground at Philips Arena in Atlanta on Sunday, Dec. 8.
