East Texas Motorcycle Enthusiasts raises $15,000 for Make-a-Wish Foundation

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

For the past 24 years, East Texas Motorcycle Enthusiasts has been raising money each year for the Make-a-Wish Foundation and this year is no exception.

On Saturday, the volunteers will host their first annual chili cook off where they will present a $15,000 check to the local Make-a-Wish Foundation.

Members say giving to the kids is a feeling they can never truly express.

"It's a tear jerker when you give these wishes away. You see the kid's smiles and know what they are fixing to get," said Charles Wood, an ETME member.

"It's all worthwhile, believe me. It makes a grown man break down. It makes it worthwhile," said Uncky Crawford, the Vice President of ETME.

The leather clad, tattoo covered motorcycle enthusiasts say they have several events during the year where they raise money for the Make-a-Wish donation. All the proceeds from the chili cook off will go back into the organization, which they will use to raise money so they can go and host other events next year.

The chili cook off will start at 10 a.m. on Saturday and judging will be around 2 p.m. It is $10 per person and free for kids 10 years old and younger. Camping sites will be available and the Nash Road Band will be playing. There will also be karaoke. First, Second and Third place prizes will be awarded.

The chili has to be cooked at the acres, which is located at 17602 E. State Highway 21 in Chireno, Texas. For more information, call Woody at (936) 674-6751 or Linda at (936) 465-3242.
