LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - You could probably smell the waffles and syrup all over Lufkin Wednesday night as hundreds lined up for the 57th Annual Lufkin Rotary Club Waffle Bake.

682 people dined in the Angelina College cafeteria Wednesday night on day one of the two day waffle-fest.

It's the club's main fundraiser and a tradition to kick of the holiday season.

There is of course home-made waffles made from a closely guarded recipe, hot syrup, ham, sausage, Christmas music and good company.

Toys for Tots is also there to collect toys to give out to children this Christmas.

Waffle bake coordinator, Valena Spradley says, "It's for the Lufkin Rotary Club and what we do is [support] things like Polio Plus. We do things nation-wide and world-wide with polio eradication. Here locally we do things like support the Lufkin Zoo, the Lufkin Interact Club and we give scholarships."

If you missed out on Waffle Wednesday don't worry, it's a two day event! Doors open Thursday, December 5th at 5:00 PM and stay open until 7:30. Tickets are $5 for adults and $4 for children.
