UNION, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Deputies said they arrested a Union man after he threatened to harm his family after drinking the moonshine he was making with the help of his 9-year-old daughter.

Union County deputies said the family of Ty Jones, 36, called them after he assaulted them and threatened to hurt family members and their pets.

Jones' family said he was highly intoxicated from the moonshine he was making and drinking, according to deputies. Sheriff David Taylor said they spoke with Jones' daughter who told them she helped Jones make the illegal alcoholic beverage.

"She was told what ingredients to add by him. She was not a willing participant," Taylor said.

Taylor said after talking with the daughter his deputies searched Jones' home on the three thousand block of the Jonesville-Lockhart highway and found a homemade distillery.

Deputies said Jones was arrested on charges of criminal domestic violence, unlawful neglect of a child, unlawful manufacturing of liquor and unlawful possession of a distillery.

Taylor said he is glad Jones' family got law enforcement involved and not only helped shutdown Jones' illegal moonshine operation but helped get a little girl out of danger.

"A child was recruited to do something like this and did it out of fear for the safety of other people in the house," said Taylor.  "I think that's tragic."

Taylor said the distillery will be destroyed after Jones' trial.

More than a few tar-covered tires are hanging on to the parking lot of a Lufkin tire shop.  On August 31, newly laid asphalt on Loop 287 started sticking to tires of those driving, leaving many of the cars un-driveable. As of Friday, the Texas Department of Transportation hadn't come out with an official cause for the incident, but that hasn't stopped over 600 people from filing claims with them.
