GOODYEAR, AZ (CBS5) -

Police in Goodyear say a 7-year-old boy is in stable condition after being hit by a school bus while on his bike Friday afternoon.

Goodyear police said the boy's helmet was a big factor in preventing him from more serious injuries.

The boy was struck by a Surprise Preschool school bus near Falcon and Westview drives about 3 p.m. Friday. He was treated at the scene and then taken to a hospital where he is expected to make a full recovery.

Police said the driver of an after-school shuttle was not at fault and wasn't cited. None of the four students on the shuttle were hurt.

Mabel Padgett school where the boy attends has the "Lids on Kids" helmet program. To learn more about the program, click here.
