Throughout the weekend, Tempe is hosting 12 events, including the PAC 12 Championship game. The Tempe Chamber of Commerce estimates 300,000 people will spend about $8 million  over the next few days, and local businesses are hoping to capitalize on the influx of people.

"It's pretty much like a Christmas come early," said Troy Scoma who owns Cactus Sports on Mill.

Scoma has already hired extra staff for the holiday season, and says this is going to be a busy few days.

"Having this game, it's going to increase business about 200 percent. We can't ask for anything better," said Scoma.

Besides the PAC 12 game, The Gammage Center also is hosting an off-Broadway show, and the Tempe Arts Festival has closed down parts of Mill.

"Lots of people. (It's going to be) very, very busy. Between the arts festival and the football game, we're expecting a lot more traffic than normal," said Erik Stanek, the manager at the Handlebar restaurant in Tempe.

Despite the boost for business, not everyone is excited for all of the action.

"I'm going to stay clear. Absolutely. I'm not going downtown this weekend," said Art Jacobs, who's lived a few miles from Mill for more than four decades.

"They forget us, and the patrols forget us. They'll all be downtown this weekend. They won't be here on the streets where we live," he continued.
