PINAL COUNTY, AZ (CBS5) -

Three people have been arrested for allegedly taking part in human trafficking in Pinal County.

The Pinal County Sheriff's Office said deputies stopped a 2002 Hyundai car on Ralston Road, just north of Dune Shadow Road for a traffic violation.

The deputy making the stop could see two large bundles of marijuana wrapped in burlap on the backseat.

The driver, Willa Thomas, 51, of Bapchule, AZ, said she was in need of money so her grandson, Kevin Lewis, 37, also of Bapchule, offered to give her $500 to pick up illegal immigrants and pot he had with him.

Claudio Perez Felix, 35, of Sinaloa, Mexico, admitted to being in the U.S. illegally. Felix also had an outstanding warrant for his arrest out of Chandler for a DUI arrest.

The pot weighed 54.5 pounds with a street value of $41,5000.

Lewis and Perez-Felix were booked into the Pinal County Jail for possession of marijuana for sale, transportation of marijuana and possession of marijuana. Thomas was released from custody because of preexisting medical issues but charges against her will be submitted to the Pinal County Attorney's Office.
